He was hit by a rolling stone in the rescue of the optical cable in Lixian County, Sichuan Province, and he died gloriously.

　　Liu Jianqiu is an employee of Chengdu Communication Construction Engineering Bureau of China Mobile. After the earthquake, he was ordered to be the captain of China Mobile’s optical cable line emergency engineering team, responsible for opening the "Marcand-Lixian-Wenchuan" optical cable. This optical cable connects nearly 60 base stations along the way, involving mobile communication links in 107 townships. It is the most important optical cable connected with Chengdu and a lifeline. Liu Jianqiu led 36 rescue team members to rush to the earthquake-stricken area in Aba Prefecture regardless of the aftershocks that occurred from time to time. This important communication optical cable was opened at the first time, and the communication between Wenchuan and the outside world was restored.

　　On May 16th, Liu Jianqiu laid an optical cable in Gaojiazhuang, Lixian County. The sudden aftershock caused rocks to fly down and dust to roll. Regardless of personal safety, Liu Jianqiu quickly called his colleagues who were working at the foot of the mountain to avoid it. Just then, the flying stone hit Liu Jianqiu. At the age of 36, he died heroically because of serious injuries and excessive bleeding.
