Old Seagull: The regret and waiting of the birds who love each other
Old Seagull is a pure prose poem movie. In the film, an old man and an autistic child have become friends because of seagulls, a test of life and death, and there is a very spoony waiting behind them.
Niu Ben plays an old man with no name and surname. For more than ten years, he has been feeding a group of seagulls from Siberia to Kunming for the winter with his savings. The mysterious old man and seagulls attracted a Buyi family on the shore. The autistic boy Xiao Zi heard the poem recited by the old man by the lake, so he opened his heart and said the first sentence in his life.
The film has a slow rhythm, bright and fresh tone, no complicated narrative structure, and no strong emotional outburst. The whole film tells the story behind a story through simple lens language: the lovers of the old man when he was young liked seagulls best, and they caught up with the political movement when they were talking about marriage, and the young man left the girl because of cowardice. Later, the girl was killed in a fire, and the young man closed his feelings and pinned his lifelong regret on seagulls. He thought that every seagull was the embodiment of his lover.
In addition to a large number of descriptions of the image of seagulls, there are many very vivid pictures in the film, such as the old man visiting the vegetable market and making a nutritious meal of "millet and eggs" for seagulls.
